Visit The Bulgarian Macedonian National Educational and Cultural Center (BMNECC), located in West Homestead, PA, for a lively introduction to a rich culture that has deep roots in Pittsburgh area history. We sponsor many interesting activities - from live music and dance events to art exhibits and lectures. Stop by on Saturdays from September through May to purchase delicious, homemade ethnic soups and other Bulgarian specialties, fresh from the Center's Soup Sega! kitchen. Individuals and organizations are welcome to rent the Cultural Center's large, modern facility for weddings, dances, meetings, lectures, concerts and parties.
The BMNECC is America's national center for the preservation and presentation of culture
and art, and is the oldest Bulgarian organization in the U.S. Since its origins in 1930 the organization has been dedicated to education, community service, multi-cultural cooperation, and promotion of the arts. Its Otets Paissii Folk Ensemble performs regularly at venues in the Pittsburgh region and beyond. The Center offers members' programs in language, dance and music for children and adults and provides customized seminars for visiting groups, such as teachers, musicians, students, senior citizens and government leaders.
The facility, built in 1935, houses the largest collection of Bulgarian art, audio recordings, film, video, costumes, jewelry, textiles, books and artifacts in the United States. The BMNECC is a 501(c)3 organization that is supported by government agencies (such as the Allegheny Regional Asset District), businesses, private foundations and individuals, and also from sales generated by the Soup Sega! program.
